Brown Fingerlimes have brown skinned fruit with lovely pink tinted flesh. The warmer the region grown, the better the flesh colour. In cold regions the pink colour does not develop as well (like blood oranges).
A unique citrus native to Australia where it has been used by generations of Aboriginal people as a prized bush food.
In its natural habitat it grows as an understory rainforest small tree (up to 10m) from south east Queensland to northern NSW. In NZ conditions it will grow to around 2-3m tall (naturally - but recommend you prune manage for height and shape) and less if grown in large tubs.
It has small dainty dark glossy green rounded leaves & you wouldn't pick it as being a citrus on seeing one. The branches are very thorny.
In my opinion, the Brown Finger Lime grows better than the green type.
Finger Limes have tiny juice filled pearl beads (like caviar) contained in the long gherkin shaped fruit and squeeze out in a free flow manner. The small pearl-like beads pop in your mouth, releasing a splash of fresh tarty lime juice.
You are purchasing ONE healthy new season branched cutting grown Brown fruiting Australian Finger Lime tree in a tall Olive pot standing aprox 8-12cm tall from top of pot to top of growth.
These cutting grown plants will grow happily on their own natural Finger Lime root system. In good growing conditions likely to start flowering in 3 seasons, sooner in warm summer and mild winter regions.
Grow Finger Limes in a tub or warm sunny sheltered garden spot. Although cold tolerant, they don't like heavy frosts & poor draining heavy clay soil types.
