Grant Caunter, owner State of Play Brewery has over 25 years in the brewing industry, here in New Zealand and abroad, most recently as Global Director of Craft Beer at Heineken, based in Amsterdam. In his time, he has enjoyed a lot of beer.
Says Grant ...
"We have seen a sharp rise in the number of drinkers entering the zero-alcohol category in recent years, but what about options outside of mainstream non alc lagers? Importantly, what about zero alcohol beer that tastes great? "
This is where kiwi, Grant Caunter saw an opportunity, and State of Play, New Zealand’s first and only zero-alcohol brewery was born.
"All our beer is naturally brewed without fancy alcohol extraction machines. For full flavour we balance NZ Hop bitterness with the backbone of Canterbury malt, and our special yeast produces only a tiny amount of alcohol (0.3%) while locking in all the flavour."
"Nectaron" An unfiltered dry hopped pale ale. Bursting with intense tropical flavours and the punch in your nose aroma of NZ Nectaron Hops. Bronze Medal winner at the recent 2024 Australian International Beer Awards.
"IPA" Crack a can of IPA (Indian Pale Ale), enjoy some hoppy goodness, crisp clean bite and welcome to the rebellion. Silver Medal winner at the recent 2024 Australian International Beer Awards.
"Sunbreaker Ale" After months of trial this new brew has the signature State of Play full body and finish, fused with the ingredients of the ultimate sunny day elixir. Ginger adds some heat up front, Honey for a warm glow and the Lime cuts through letting all the flavours shine. The natural Ginger, Honey and Lime is added at the end of the process, then pasteurised to lock in all the flavour. Silver Medal winner at the recent 2024 Australian International Beer Awards.
